Providing Expert Information at the Viewer's Convenience
Presentation/training videos are similar to seminar/meeting videos in some respects. The presentation is often given by an expert who knows the material well, speaking extemporaneously or from notes. Presentation/training videos differ from seminar videos in that the presenter performs for the camera only with no audience present. This frees the camera from constraints of real time, allowing for different angles, cutaways, and retakes. Because of the versatility this method offers, presentation/training videos require more time to shoot.

How much preparation is required?
Less preparation is required if the presentation is informal or the presenter has given it many times. Less experienced presenters and more formal requirements dictate thorough preparation. In this case, a word for word script read from a videoprompter is often the most cost effective approach. Learn more about videoprompting in the Services section. Granted, it takes time and money to develop a script. The videoprompter and operator also add to shooting costs.

However, there are economies to the scripted approach as well. Some presenters are very distracted by the camera. Without a videoprompter, much time and many retakes may be required. The script assures precise wording and order of ideas, resulting in a clearer presentation. Multiple takes can be logged in the margins of the script to locate and identify the best takes. Such logging during the shoot can save hours in the edit suite.

Computer Training Videos
Today, many presentation/training videos provide instruction for running computer software. These videos are also shot with a single camera, but a scan converter generates a high quality video signal from the computer screen that is recorded on a professional VCR for editing with the main video. The mouse pointer can be used to point out specifics or arrows and other symbols can be inserted.

Editing of computer training videos is more complex than a seminar video, requiring widely variable effort, depending on the particular project.

Richard Penner will shoot your presentation/training video with our Sony D30 digital camera on Betacam SP stock. For limited budgets we can also shoot on DVCPRO, but shots of live computer screens should be done with the D30 to eliminate screen flicker. Richard and Norm Kern will edit your video in our real-time non-linear edit suite using our uncompressed Digisuite edit system. For clients on a tight budget can edit simpler projects in our linear suite. In any case, your project is finished on a high quality Betacam SP master.

Most production companies keep the edit master and camera originals, forcing you to order all your copies through them. Our clients may purchase their camera originals and edit master for a nominal fee. We want you to order copies through us- our short run duplication is the best quality you will find anywhere. Rather than hold edit masters hostage, we like to earn your duplication business by charging fair prices and providing good service. If you need large quantities, we will recommend capable mass duplicators.
